A local hair salon is aiming to give those who have to spend the holidays in psychiatric care a bit of a boost

Donations can be made at the salon or head to their Facebook page

COQUITLAM (NEWS 1130) – A local salon is aiming to provide some love and support to a group of people often forgotten over the holidays — hospital psychiatric patients.

Remy Nazemi and her Coquitlam hair salon Bloom are collecting donations of small gifts and essentials with the aim of sending a filled stocking to every patient in the psychiatry wards of Royal Columbian Hospital and the lodges on the Riverview grounds, which includes Cottonwood, Connolly, Cypress, and Brookside.

“Mental health is always a big concern,” Nazemi explains. “The patients in the wards are that much more isolated right now with the COVID situation, not having in and out privileges, or visitation from outside friends and family.”

Donations of gloves, socks, deodorant, chapstick, paperback or crossword books, coffee gift cards, or small treats can be made at the salon. Alternatively, a donation of $10 can fund a complete stocking.

Details about how to make a cash donation remotely are available on Bloom’s Facebook page.

“We’re hoping to hit our halfway mark this weekend and deliver the first batch, just because they’re taking up my entire living room right now. And then hopefully we can double that donation by Christmas Eve,” Nazemi says.
