Wind warning in effect for Metro Vancouver

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Batten down your tinsel — a wind warning is in place for Metro Vancouver

Meteorologist Michael Kuss says the coastal areas are expected to get the worst of it Friday afternoon.

“Down to the southwest, exposed areas down around Tsawwassen, around Boundary Bay where those winds will be strongest this afternoon, in excess of 50 kilometres per hour,” he explains, adding some gusts could potentially reach 60 to 70 km/hour.

Michael is expecting stronger winds on the Sunshine Coast, where he says the air will be coming out of the south and south east, funneling up along the Straight of Georgia.

Conditions should ease slightly when there’s a westerly shift later in the day, by Friday evening, he notes.

Wind will be coupled with rain at times in parts of the region throughout the day.

People are being reminded that any loose objects outdoors can be tossed around by strong winds. Make sure you secure items and are aware of your surrounding when you’re outside.
