SURREY (NEWS 1130) — Looking for some fitness inspiration in the new year?

Starting in January, a dance studio in Surrey will be offering online bhangra lessons for free.

Kabeer Panesar, with Vancity Dance, calls it an invigorating workout that only needs a YouTube account.

“It’s our way of connecting the community while we can’t be physically together because we know how important dance is to mental health and even to our physical health.”

He says before the pandemic, bhangra classes had been popular, but the studio has closed completely because of COVID-19.

“It is accessible to anyone,” Panesar says. “These are different variations that are available in the video. Usually, there are three instructors in the video and you can choose which intensity level you want to do.”

Classes will be held Saturday mornings at 10 a.m. and Tuesday at 7 p.m. To join for free, search Vancity Bhangra on YouTube.
