Life after COVID-19: What Canadians want to do most when the pandemic ends

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – We’ve been dealing with this COVID-19 pandemic for the better part of a year, but what happens when it’s over?
A survey from the Angus Reid Institute is looking into what Canadians want to do most when restrictions have ended.
Overall, Canadians appear to be excited about “doing regular things in the community without stress,” with 44 per cent of respondents saying so. That’s followed by having physical contact with others — whether that’s hugging, shaking hands, etc. — at 43 per cent, and travelling internationally at 42 per cent.

Most people in B.C. (51 per cent) say they’re excited to hug their loved ones.
Meanwhile, Quebecers lead in the country for wanting to go out for dinner (45 per cent) and to a party (19 per cent.)
In Manitoba, people are most looking forward to get together with older people, with whom they’ve had to forego visits due to the risks associated with COVID-19.

However, some people aren’t optimistic that life will return to what it once was.
About one-fifth of Canadians say that a pre-pandemic normal will never return.
“Notably, 48 per cent of those who will not get vaccinated against COVID-19 say this, while the proportion is just 15 per cent among those who will,” the survey reads.
