Some Good News: The Rock surprises California family for Christmas

There was a special holiday edition of actor John Krasinski’s web series, Some Good News, with a Christmas moment that will give you all the feels.

As part of a segment called “Hero Parent of the Week,” Krasinski chatted with Jay Abel, a California dad who has put a bunch of his stuff up on eBay in order to get some cash to buy his kids their Christmas gifts.

“It will be three years since we lost their mother and my wife,” Abel told Krasinski. “So I’m just trying to give my children, who are finally starting to get back to what could be described as normal, a better Christmas.”

Among the items Abel listed were comic book collector’s items.

“But, my children are more important than me, so I’m OK with that,” he said.

Krasinski said he first thought to go online and buy all of Abel’s stuff. When he did, the actor said he ran into troubles — which Abel later cleared up, saying he thought Krasinski was a scammer.

So, Krasinski turned to another celebrity friend.

Enter Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.

Abel had tweeted at The Rock, asking if he could help him out by retweeting him.

“Of all the things you could have asked me, and of all the things that people do ask me — and that’s OK, nothing wrong with asking — the only thing you wanted was a retweet,” the former wrestler, who appeared dressed up as Santa, said. “I thought, ‘Dwanta Claus can do better than a retweet.'”

Shortly after, Johnson announced he would be taking care of Christmas for the family this year.

“I want to take all of your stuff off of eBay because Dwanta Claus is going to take care of all of that stuff man,” Johnson said.

Abel was elated, but it didn’t end there. Johnson also invited Abel to southern California to tour DC Universe and even promised his Black Atom script, signed.

Some Good News began eight months ago when the COVID-19 pandemic first gripped North America. Every Sunday, Krasinski highlights new videos of “good news” stories to help people who are coping with self-isolation.
