RICHMOND (NEWS 1130) — A woman in her 70’s has serious injuries after she was hit crossing the street in Richmond Tuesday.

The woman was crossing Westminster Highway at Buswell Street and was in the intersection around 5 p.m.

The woman was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover.

The driver stayed at the scene, and police say speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors.

But Mounties describe this accident as very preventable.

“Drivers, please take extra care to anticipate any possible pedestrians, especially in the downtown core. Pedestrians, when at all possible, please use marked crosswalks, follow traffic signals, and take extra caution when you cross the road,” Constable Kenneth Lau says in a release.

They’re also reminding pedestrians to use marked crosswalks, follow traffic signals, and take extra caution when crossing the road.

If you have information about the collision or have dashcam footage contact the Richmond RCMP at 604-278-1212 or Richmond_CCIT@rcmp-grc.gc.ca, but if you wish to remain anonymous, you can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or www.solvecrime.ca, quoting file number 2020-35425.
