VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — Police are searching for a man who sprayed an employee in the face with bear mace at a downtown drug store before taking multiple bottles of vitamins.

In a release, police say the man went into the London Drugs on Granville and West Georgia streets Tuesday afternoon around 3 p.m.

When the store’s security saw him put three bottles of vitamins in his backpack, the employee confronted him.

“The suspect used bear mace against the store employee,” says Const. Tania Visintin. “The spray was applied directly to the victim’s face.”

The suspect is described as white, about 40 to 50 years old, and around 5’5″ with an average build. At the time of the attack, he was wearing a black hoodie under a black jacket, blue jeans, and a baseball cap with a yellow brim. The man also had a black backpack and was wearing a blue medical mask.

While Visintin says officers arrived minutes after the call, they weren’t able to find the man.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Vancouver Police Department at 604-717-4021.
