VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — A pair of men were taken into Vancouver Police custody following an overnight standoff with officers.
The VPD was called to a building near Powell Avenue and Princess Street in the Downtown Eastside around 7 p.m. Saturday after a witness saw a man with a rifle.
“At one point, a 32-year-old man came out of a suite and with a firearm. An Emergency Response Section member fired at the suspect. The suspect was taken to hospital for non-life-threatening injuries,” a release from the VPD reads. “The second suspect, a 31-year-old man, remained in the same suite for several hours, however, police were able to negotiate a safe resolution. ”
Both men are facing firearm-related charges.
“A call like this is very dynamic and challenging. Responding officers worked to gather the appropriate resources and ensure a safe resolution,” Constable Tania Visintin says.
Police are still investigating the incident and the Independent Investigations Office has been notified.
