Journalist attacked by protester at Vancouver pro-Trump rally

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — A CBC photo-journalist was attacked during a pro-Trump rally in Vancouver on Wednesday.

Award-winning local photographer Ben Nelms shared photos of the alleged attacker on Twitter.

“Unprovoked violence against anyone, including members of the media is wrong,” a tweet from Nelms reads.

Police in Vancouver confirm they were called out just after 2 p.m. where the victim had been punched in the face by an “unknown man.”

“The suspect took off before police attended. However, we are actively investigating,” the VPD says in an emailed statement to NEWS 1130.

A small gathering of 20 or 30 people out front of the Vancouver Art Gallery in support of the current U.S. President took place as law enforcement south of the border secured the U.S. Capitol building hours after protestors forced their way inside.

Nelms says he is doing well and thanks everyone for their support.
