Man shot by Chilliwack RCMP; police watchdog called in

CHILLIWACK (NEWS 1130) – A man has been shot by police in Chilliwack and now, B.C.’s police watchdog is investigating.

RCMP had been called to a home Tuesday morning to investigate a report of a man threatening and hurting a woman. The woman was able to get out, and took off.

Police went looking for the suspect, who was reportedly still sending threatening messages to the woman.

The man was eventually found in his car, in a parking lot. Mounties boxed the car in and say the suspect reportedly had a weapon. They say as they tried to arrest him, the man was shot.

The man was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The Independent Investigations Office is looking into what happened.
