Virtual candlelight vigil takes place for missing Port Moody woman

PORT MOODY (NEWS 1130) — An outpour of support and dedication into the search for a missing Port Moody woman has continued, and one woman is making it her mission to ensure volunteers are taken care of.

Barb Anderson lives in the same neighbourhood but has no connection to the family of missing 48-year-old Trina Hunt, and says she’s reached out to one of Hunt’s relatives to see how she could offer help.

“[I] asked if it would be okay if I put a call out or donations to feed the searchers and the family. I was going to buy a patter of Subway sandwiches and if anybody wanted to contribute, then we could buy that many more sandwiches. And I got an overwhelming response,” she explains.

Anderson’s mission isn’t a solo effort.

Many do not know Hunt personally, but that hasn’t stopped them from doing whatever they can to find her.

“The best part of having a community is to be able to help each other out and knowing that we can depend on each other. I feel proud of our neighbourhood and our community and how much they’ve been able to come together and help with the search,” she says. “We may not know Trina, but her story touched us so deeply.”

A virtual vigil is planned for Hunt Sunday afternoon at 4:30, encouraging everyone to light a candle and share her photo on social media. Anderson hopes this will help and making sure finding Trina is a priority.

“It’s so important to continue putting up posters, getting the word out to communities, further and further out,” she says. “It’s important for the family that we don’t start forgetting about Trina’s story as the days go by.”

Family, friends and police have scoured wooded areas and trails for any trace of Hunt since Monday, Jan. 18.

Hunt was last seen at her home in Port Moody around 6 a.m. wearing a puffy black Northface jacket with a teal green collar and purple shoes.

Her husband reported her missing that day after he found their house empty after he came home from work and couldn’t find her.

Hunt is 5’4” tall and weighs about 120lbs. Friends and family have been running their own search command centre on Maple Drive, where community members have been sending coffee and food by delivery.

If you have any information about Hunt’s whereabouts, you’re asked to contact the Port Moody Police Department’s non-emergency line at 604-461-3456.

Police are seeking dashcam or surveillance footage taken on Heritage Mountain on Jan. 18 between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
