Arrest made after teen seriously hurt in North Vancouver hit-and-run

NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – After a 17-year-old girl was left unconscious and critically hurt when she was hit with a vehicle Monday night, police say someone has been arrested.

The teen was struck around 10:15 p.m. near Keith Road and St. Andrews Avenue.

“Although we have made an arrest, it’s very important that we continue our efforts to gather all available evidence,” North Vancouver RCMP Sgt. Peter DeVries says in a statement. “We are looking for witnesses from two separate areas who may have seen or heard a white, newer model vehicle in the area or on neighbouring streets.”

If you saw or heard anything near Keith Road East between Ridgeway Avenue and St. George’s Avenue around the time of the collision — or near Lynn Valley Road and the Safeway parking lot shortly after — you are asked to call Mounties at 604 985-1311.

“We do have a number of witnesses, including those people who located this young woman and thankfully were very helpful and called 911 and provided some first aid,” DeVries says. “But we believe there are other people who may have seen or heard portions of this accident.”

Police are also asking for dashcam or surveillance video.

“This is a really tragic thing that’s happened … this young woman and her family, her friends, her schoolmates [are impacted]. She is a member of our youth community here [in North Vancouver] and one of the local schools. So there are going to be a lot of people who are deeply affected by this,” DeVries says.

A “newer” model white sedan was seized by police, but they haven’t provided any more information regarding the arrest.

“Our greatest concern is for the health of this young woman,” DeVries says. “We have the investigation well in hand. The focus for everyone else right now should be on her recovery.”
