‘Don’t dump animals,’ pleads Maple Ridge vet after snake found on road

MAPLE RIDGE (NEWS 1130) – A vet in Maple Ridge is pleading with pet owners to not abandon their adopted animals in the wild.

Dr. Adrian Walton explains in a video posted to Facebook that a corn snake was found on the side of the road in Coquitlam and brought to Dewdney Animal Hospital.

“This is where — in private — I would swear and make up all kinds of words that I cannot say in public. So please, if you’re going to buy a pet, it needs to be a forever pet. Do your research,” he says.

Walton notes animals like a snake can have special needs, and anyone interested in owning one must know how to care for them properly.

“Don’t dump them on the street, don’t dump them in forests, don’t dump them in streams or creeks,” he says. “Don’t dump them. Find appropriate homes for them”

Walton recommends reaching out to BC Reptiles Club, a non-profit that advocates for exotic pets, for more information.

He also asks for the owner of the corn snake to reach out to Dewdney Animal Hospital at 604-467-1161. Otherwise, the snake will be taken to the BC Reptiles Club.

“Once again, don’t dump animals,” Walton says.
