VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — Police are out with a warning after a woman was assaulted and had her cell phone stolen while jogging in Pacific Spirit Park Wednesday afternoon.

According to University RCMP, at around noon the UBC student was “approached by an unknown man who struck her without warning and then fled.” The woman was taken to hospital for “non-life-threatening injuries” and released.

The suspect is described as a white man in his mid-to-late 30s with brown eyes. He has a “burly build” and is roughly 6’0″ tall. At the time of the attack he was wearing a dark toque, black pants, sunglasses, and a green jacket.

Anyone who was in the park at the time or who has information can call RCMP at 604-224-1322.

In a statement about the incident, police ask anyone jogging in the area to pay extra attention to their surroundings.

“If you are jogging or walking with earbuds, keep the music volume low, if possible, exercise in pairs or in populated areas,” Const. Christina Martin writes. “Also, let someone know your route and when you’re going (or share your GPS) and be aware of noises and of others around you.”
