Man shot to death inside vehicle in Burnaby ‘targeted incident’: IHIT

BURNABY (NEWS 1130) – Another shooting in the Lower Mainland left one man dead inside his vehicle Wednesday night.

Mounties say they found the body of 32-year-old Chris Kenworthy after responding to a call of gunshots on Portland Street near Byrne Creek in Burnaby at about 8 p.m.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team’s Sgt. Frank Jang says the man was known to police.

“We believe that this was a targeted incident,” he says. “With respect to motive, it’s much too early to speculate on that, but we’re going to have to dig a little deeper.”

Jang adds it is also still too early to know if Kenworthy’s death is connected to other gang-related violence around the Lower Mainland.

“When we look at our victim’s name, it doesn’t jump out at us. It’s not as familiar to us as perhaps some of the names of victims of homicide we’ve seen recently,” he says.

Kenworthy had been visiting family before he was shot, Jang says.

Police say there isn’t any risk to the public.

This comes as Surrey RCMP investigate a shooting in a home Wednesday morning around 7:30 a.m. that left one woman dead and a man hurt. Police don’t believe this was a random act either.
