Woman killed, man hurt in Surrey shooting

SURREY (NEWS 1130) – A woman is dead and a man is hurt after a shooting in Surrey.

RCMP say gunfire was heard early Thursday morning on 139A Street near 108 Avenue. Officers arrived around 7:30 a.m. and found the pair inside a home, both with gunshot wounds.

The woman in her early 20s later died in the hospital. The man in his 40s is expected to survive his injuries.

“She had police interactions in the past,” says Sgt. Frank Jang, with the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team. “We don’t believe this was a random shooting. The people who did the shooting came for a purpose.”

Jang says investigators are still determining if the woman was the intended target.

“There’s nothing to suggest [the woman] is linked to this gang conflict we’ve seen recently,” he adds.
