Dine Out Vancouver kicks off, with changes due to COVID-19

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The annual Dine Out Vancouver Festival is kicking off Friday — with a few changes, in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Many of the restaurants taking part are offering take-out versions of their special festival menus, and lead organizer Lucas Pavan says in-person dining will feature all the typical pandemic precautions.

“Having a 50 per cent capacity, having plexiglass dividers between tables, having staff and guests wear masks while not seated at table, contact tracing, sanitization — all of those different things,” he said.

Pavan says despite the challenges, over 330 restaurants are still taking part this year, with the special fixed-price menu deals. About 170 of those restaurants are offering the meals to go.

“Restaurants are in clear need of this support. We would encourage Vancouverites and those from across Metro Vancouver to support their local restaurants within their communities and within their household bubble,” he said.

The festival typically lasts 17 days but this year, it will keep going through to March 7.

The B.C. public health order does allow you to dine in restaurants, but you are asked to stay within your health region, stay seated at your table with a maximum of six people from your household.
