Whistler woman ‘mocked’ in email not meant for her from MLA office

WHISTLER (NEWS 1130) – A Whistler woman is wondering why office staff in her local MLA’s office are mocking her after she reached out for information.

Christina Willis says she has been emailing MLA for West Vancouver-Sea to Sky Jordan Sturdy to get some answers about his priorities.

She started inquiring prior to the election last fall and had reached out to all the candidates in her riding, which Sturdy ended up winning.

It took a few emails and several months before Willis heard back from the MLA’s office that wanted to confirm some details, as well as offer a reason as to why it took so long for a response.

Then on Thursday, she received an email she wasn’t meant to see. It was sent from an office assistant intended for Sturdy to read.

Here is a section from the email verbatim:

“Not sure where she got her information during the election but obviously not as active on digital platforms as she might claim to be as a 30-something self-proclaimed wellness influencer (I checked her out on IG and her website – www.discoverybord.com (not worth looking at)”

“The comments in this email are quite laughable,” says Willis. “I have very little online presence. I don’t identify as a wellness influencer. I have all of 100 followers on my Instagram.”

She thinks office staff Googled her or searched her email address. The email refers to a website, which it incorrectly spells. “The website is no longer active. I haven’t used that website in three or four years.”

The email also questions where Willis ‘got her information during the election.’ Willis says that’s probably in response to the emails she had sent to Sturdy, suggesting his presence during the fall election was lacking.

While she says she isn’t offended by the email, she says some of the friends and family she has shown the email to are shocked and want to see some kind of response.

And it’s not only the tone of the email that struck her, but the fact a staff member conducted research on her before passing on her correspondence.

“It’s unacceptable that these people are voted in and meant to represent us and apparently we’re not even worth their time,” she says.

“I’m feeling like the MLA and his office have mocked me, have made bad faith judgements against me, and have essentially encouraged my MLA not to reach out to me and that I’m not worth his time,” she says.

Willis says the office assistant was quickly made aware of her error, and that Sturdy has reached out to her for a meeting next week.

NEWS 1130 has reached out to Sturdy for comment.
