BURNABY (NEWS 1130) — The search for 68-year-old Thomas Tremblay has ended tragically, according to Burnaby RCMP who say he has been found dead.

Tremblay was last seen around noon on Friday when he told his caregiver he was going for a walk. Police and rescue crews focussed their search around Byrne Creek Park in South Burnaby.

The search ended late Sunday morning, when a local couple who had volunteered to assist with the search “led police to Tremblay,” according to a statement which says he was found in a very remote area of the park.

“Our initial investigation has led us to believe that Mr. Tremblay succumbed to the cold weather. We express our condolences to his family and friends as we all mourn their loss,” writes Cpl. Brett Cunningham.

“This is not the outcome we were hoping for. We take this moment to remind ourselves how we must continue to protect and look out for our community’s most vulnerable. Thank you to all those who contributed in the search and shared his photograph.”

Police say they are thankful to first responders and the “countless others” who  helped with the search.
