SURREY (NEWS 1130) – Teachers in Surrey have put out a new call for everyone in their schools to wear masks whenever they can, and they’re doing it in several languages.
YouTube videos in Tagalog, Punjabi, Mandarin, and English are also urging parents to make sure proper COVID-19 precautions are being followed outside the classroom.
The push follows a series of safety assessments in Surrey, which show, despite most schools following protocols, more could be done to slow the spread of COVID-19 in schools.
Under current provincial rules, middle and secondary school students and all staff from K-12 are required to wear masks at school. They are allowed to remove them while sitting or standing at their workstations or desks, if there is a barrier, or if they are drinking or eating.
Wearing a mask remains a personal choice for elementary school students.
