B.C. records 456 new COVID-19 cases, two deaths

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The daily COVID-19 case numbers in B.C. remain relatively steady, with 456 new cases recorded in the last day.

Wednesday’s update brought the total case count to 78,278.

With 259, the Fraser Health region had the most new cases, followed by Vancouver Coastal Health at 108.

“There are 4,668 active cases of COVID-19 in the province, with 7,924 people under active public health monitoring as a result of identified exposure to known cases. A further 72,219 people who tested positive have recovered,” reads a statement from provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix.

There are 237 people in the hospital, including 64 patients in intensive care.

Two more COVID-19 related deaths were recorded, for a total of 1,338 in B.C.

On the vaccine front, the province says 230,875 doses have been given out, 62,608 of which are second doses.

On Tuesday, Henry said people older than 80 in the general population can expect to be contacted in the coming weeks about registering to receive the vaccine, if they so choose. More details are expected Monday.

“Nobody will be left behind,” she promised.
