SURREY (NEWS 1130) — NEWS 1130 has learned there are multiple cases of COVID-19 at Surrey Memorial Hospital, but an outbreak has not been officially declared.

A family member of someone on our OMNI Television team tested positive for COVID-19 Friday. Staff at the hospital said transmission has occurred within the hospital, and that there is an outbreak.

I an email, a spokesperson for Fraser Health says “we have not declared an outbreak.”

Outbreaks are ongoing at three Lower Mainland hospitals Mission Memorial Hospital, St. Paul’s Hospital, and Vancouver General Hospital.

This outbreak was not included in Friday’s update from provincial health officials. NEWS 1130 has reached out to Fraser Health to request details about how many people have been infected.

A previous outbreak at the hospital was declared over on Feb. 8. Thirteen people died and more 115 were infected in that outbreak.
