70-year-old employee killed by BC ski resort groomer: RCMP

OLIVER (NEWS1130) — A 70-year-old man has been killed in a worksite accident at a ski resort near Oliver.

Oliver RCMP say they were called to Mount Baldy Ski Resort Friday afternoon to find an employee with serious injuries stuck beneath a snowcat groomer.

The Mounties say despite the best efforts of emergency responders, the man died.

On its Facebook page, the mountain says it is grieving the passing of a wonderful and caring staff member.

“We are all devastated. The intense emotions we feel are beyond comprehension. We cannot begin to grasp the overwhelming pain and sorrow the family is going through right now. We know there are no words to comfort them,” reads the post.

The mountain was closed on Saturday to allow a WorkSafe BC investigation to get underway.

RCMP say the man’s name won’t be released.

The resort’s Facebook page says everyone is “working diligently with the authorities on this situation,” and is asking for patience as it deals with this “tragic situation.”
