B.C. baby with rare cancer dies, money raised to be donated to ‘other little fighters’

NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — An infant who was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer when he was just one week old has tragically passed away, and the nearly $300,000 raised for his medical care will now be donated to charity.

Alejandro (Alejo) Andres Quinn Angel was born Jan. 20, and was one of only ten people in the world to be diagnosed with an extremely aggressive and rare form of cancer.

He died in his parents’ arms on Thursday.

“He was not in pain, he was peaceful when he took his last breath,” says an email from the family.

The following day, Alejo was accepted into a clinical trial in Boston, one of the treatments a GoFundMe was raising money for.

“Although a beacon of hope, we acknowledge this would have been a very difficult journey and are comforted that Alejo’s time with us was not in discomfort. We thank all the medical institutions, professionals and healers who were so compassionate and shared our determination to do everything possible for Alejo,” the statement from the family continues.

Donations are no longer being accepted online, and the family wants anyone who contributed to know that the money raised will be donated.

“The lion’s share of your generous donations will be gifted to infant cancer treatment programs and research so other little fighters facing similar challenges get the chance to grow up.”
