Vancouver Police officers reassigned after posing for photos near body

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Two Vancouver Police officers are on desk duty and have been reassigned after a video showed them posing for pictures near a dead body.

The VPD says they have been placed in administrative positions and won’t be deployed while the Office of the Police Complaints Commissioner investigates. The department says the officers’ status will depend on the outcome of the OPCC probe.

On Wednesday, Feb. 25, the officers were caught on video by a passerby posing for photos around a body they were guarding at Third Beach.

“I was incensed. I couldn’t believe it. I could hear the snickering, the laughing, so I just kept recording,” Zachary Ratcliffe said.

“He walked down and he posed. You know twice, he posed in two different ways in front of the body,” Ratcliffe added of one of the officers. “It left a bad taste in my mouth. I felt awful. There was a human being there that was lying on the beach, and there was no sensitivity whatsoever on display for this man or woman. It just saddens me, I’m saddened.”
