‘Dance bubbles’ featured in downtown Vancouver through March

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Downtown Vancouver is bubbling with entertainment this month with some physically distanced performances.
The Vancouver business community, Tourism Vancouver, and local dance production company Small Stage have teamed up to put a smile on the faces of people walking around during March. The exhibit is called #LoveVancouver Dance Bubbles, and it features large brightly-lit bubbles with dancers inside.

“They are local dancers. They’re masters of their field that range from an Indigenous Metis jig dancer, to a belly dancer, to flamenco, Chinese dance, to contemporary. We’re about diversity, love, and joy and spreading that through Vancouver,” says Julie-Anne Saroyan, the creative producer for Small Stage.
“We’re trying to do two things in fact: be safe with the dancers. I’ve literally put them in a bubble. And have people walk around them and experience dance.”

Saroyan hopes the bubbles bring some happiness to those walking by during a difficult time.
Dancers can be found at the following locations on the corresponding days from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Thursdays (no live dancers): Lot 19, 855 W Hastings St. (between W Hastings St. and W Cordova St. at the foot of Hornby St.)
Fridays (with live dancers): Sheraton Vancouver Wall Centre Courtyard, 1000 Burrard St.
Saturdays (no live dancers): Bute and Alberni Plaza
Charles Gauthier, president and CEO of the Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association, says the innovation that has emerged over the past year has been inspiring for the team.
“Rather than seeing COVID-19 restrictions as an obstacle to activating within the public realm, creative partners like Tourism Vancouver have come up with activations like Dance Bubbles to help keep downtown feeling whimsical, vibrant, and connected,” he writes in a statement.
The event is free and will run throughout the month.
