Vancouver police look to identify man who punched woman in face in ‘random’ attack

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — Vancouver police are asking for help identifying a man who allegedly punched a woman in the face when she was walking her dog downtown in January.

The 22-year-old woman was walking her dog on Jan. 19 around 4 p.m. near the Orpheum Theatre, at Seymour and Smithe Streets.

“She was punched in the face by a man for no apparent reason. The victim was traumatized but did not suffer serious physical injuries,” says a statement from police.

“The suspect fled after the assault, and was briefly confronted by a witness.”

Police have been unable to identify the suspect, and are releasing surveillance video in hopes someone will recognize the man. He is described as a 5’10” white man, approximately 50 with short white hair.

“We’re asking people to take a good look at the person in this video and to give us a call if you know who it is,” writes Sgt. Steve Addison in a release.

“This incident is very concerning to us, as it appears to have been random and completely unprovoked. We don’t know why this woman was targeted, or what the suspect’s motivation was.”

Anyone with information is asked to call 604-717-4021 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
