Vancouver driver shares video showing close call with VPD cruiser

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — Calling it a scary situation, a Vancouver driver says they were cut off by a police cruiser Saturday night.

The driver, who wishes to remain anonymous, shared the dash cam footage from the incident on Cambie Street and 41st Avenue to Reddit.

The video shows the vehicle starting to go through the intersection after the light turns green when what appears to be a Vancouver Police Department cruiser begins turning through the intersection at the same time without any turn signal or flashing police lights.

“I saw the police coming but I didn’t know it was the police. I just saw the headlights. As he came, I was going and saw suddenly a car pull[ed] up in front of me — so I hit the brakes,” the driver tells NEWS 1130.

They say they refrained from honking after realizing it was a police vehicle.

“The car screeched on the ground because the [police] car cut me off then I just went on my way,” the driver adds.

They urge other drivers to be cautious in the area, given the ongoing construction.

The driver hasn’t filed a complaint with the department and says they don’t plan to.

NEWS 1130 has reached out to the Vancouver Police Department.
