Arrest made in connection to social media threat toward West Vancouver schools

WEST VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A young person has been arrested after someone made threats toward schools in West Vancouver over the weekend, police say.
According to a statement, police in West Vancouver became aware of the post that had been circulating overnight on Monday morning around 9 a.m.
“The social media post threatened an act of violence towards two West Vancouver schools,” the statement continues.
After a post on social media made threats directed at some #WestVan schools over the weekend, @WestVanPolice says an arrest has been made. The suspect is underage, they aren't being identified. Detectives say the person didn't have the means to carry out the threats.

The threats were made on social media, and because the suspect is underage, police aren’t identifying them.
Investigators say the person wouldn’t have been able to carry out the threats and note it is safe for students to go to school after spring break.
“We take all threats to schools very seriously,” says Const. Nicole Braithwaite. “Public safety and the safety of staff and students is vital to us.”
The person was arrested and released with “strict conditions.” Criminal charges are being recommended.
