Vancouver pop-up event launches to support local, independent artisans

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — Circle Craft is stepping up to highlight a number of artists through its pop-up event launching next week in hopes to support local, independent artisans during the pandemic.

Store Manager Afuwa Granger says the “Shop Your Circle” event will showcase seven artists in the store to draw in local shoppers to show how amazing handmade items are.

The pieces run the gamut from glasswork to paper art to pottery.

Granger admits the pandemic greatly impacted the co-op, which represents 130 artists.

“We’ve felt the brunt of it. We were closed in March last year and we only reopened in June. And now with the cruise ship traffic no longer available, we’re really looking at where we are and who we are and focusing on that as a source of strength because I think that was the ways that we did things prior to 2020 and so now it’s like there’s a huge body blow, financially, that artists have had to deal with.”

However, she says the advantage of being creative makes you resilient.

Circle Craft’s “Shop Your Circle” pop-up event runs from March 31 to April 12 at its Granville Island location.
