Richmond RCMP make arrest following an assault involving racist slurs

RICHMOND (NEWS 1130) — Richmond RCMP is investigating yet another incident involving racial slurs.

Mounties were called to a business in Steveston Monday afternoon after someone was assaulted and racist slurs were shouted at them.

Richmond RCMP Corporal Adriana O’Malley says one person has been arrested.

“I do want to stress is that obviously, any incident like this affects everyone in our community,” she tells NEWS 1130.

“We want to stress that racism has absolutely no place in our community, and we want to reassure the public that any investigation with potential hate-motivated undertones will be given our full attention and oversight,” she adds.

Police are not saying where this happened or the nature of the person’s injuries.

Mounties also refusing to disclose what slurs were used in the incident.
