Whistler-Blackcomb officially ends winter season over COVID restrictions

WHISTLER (NEWS 1130) — Out of respect for new COVID restrictions in BC, Whistler-Blackcomb says it won’t reopen until at least May.

While the mountain was scheduled to close its winter operations this year, the same day restrictions would have been lifted (April 19), the resort decided to focus on gearing up for summer.

The resort says all lift reservations, ski schools and dining bookings will be cancelled and refunds offered.

The mountain has marked May 21 on the calendar as the opening day for the summer season.

Vancouver Coastal Health has continued to monitor cases that have popped up in the Whistler area. In the past two weeks, VCH has recorded an increase in people testing positive for COVID-19 in the community.

Between March 22 and March 28, 218 new cases were recorded from that area alone.
