Woman followed, assaulted in possible Vancouver hate crime

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A man has been arrested after a seemingly random attack in southeast Vancouver. The VPD says this may have been a hate crime.

Police haven’t shared exactly where this incident happened, but say an East-Asian woman was walking Tuesday evening when she noticed that a man was standing and staring at her. Frightened, the woman turned and walked away.

Police say the man followed her, grabbed her by the hair, and pulled her backwards before running away.

The VPD says a witness who happened to be driving by got out of his car, chased the suspect down, and held him until police arrived.

The man was arrested for assault and taken to jail. The incident is being investigated as a possible hate crime.
