SURREY (NEWS 1130) – A man’s body was pulled from a home in Surrey after a fire Monday morning.
Firefighters say crews were called from both Surrey and Delta to the area of 96 Avenue and 117 Street around 5:45 a.m.
“Delta Fire arrived first. They commenced on a fire attack on a fully involved basement suite and they ended up finding a person, pulled them out, and unfortunately that person didn’t make it,” Assistant Chief of Operations Steve Serbic explained.

Few details are available at this time, including what caused the fire.
Serbic says there were a number of people in the upstairs portion of the home, but they were able to get out.
“The fire damage was contained to the basement and smoke to the upper level,” he explained.
The home is attached to a small commercial business, out of which produce is sold.
The RCMP has taken over the investigation. No other injuries have been reported.
“It’s a tough call for fire departments and both Surrey and Delta Fire arrived on scene and they did the best they could do,” Serbic added.
