Small plane crashes at Boundary Bay Airport in Delta sending man to hospital

DELTA (NEWS 1130) — One man is in hospital following a plane crash in Delta late Saturday morning.

Delta Fire has confirmed the lone occupant of the single-engine aircraft has been taken to hospital after the plane went down at the Boundary Bay Airport around 11:30 a.m.

Fire crews had to extinguish a small fire when they first arrived.

Cris Leykauf with Delta Police says while the plane did suffer significant damage, federal regulators will not be getting involved, and the pilot’s injuries are minor.

“He was taken to hospital and at this point, it does seem that his injuries are minor so we’re quite relieved about that. We did notify Transport Canada but it does appear right now that this is simply an accident, they’re not going to be attending,” she says, adding no one else was injured.
