New Westminster school district condemns threat against board chair

NEW WESTMINSTER (NEWS 1130) – The New Westminster school district says there is no room for threats and violence, after a threat was made against its board chair this week.

On Wednesday, Gurveen Dhaliwal shared a message she received on social media, after the board voted to scrap its police liaison program.

Dhaliwal wrote, “I’m … so sick of people who think it’s ok to send messages like this. It’s not.”

The district says violence has no place in schools or the community.

In a statement, it says it welcomes healthy debate and discussion on issues that affect students, schools, and the community.

“But there is zero tolerance or space for reactions that become abusive or threatening,” it said.
