Attempted traffic stop in Abbotsford ends with woman critically hurt in crash

ABBOTSFORD (NEWS 1130) – B.C.’s police watchdog has been called to Abbotsford after a crash that has left an 18-year-old woman fighting for her life.

It happened just before 1:30 a.m. Monday at McCallum Road and Highway 11. Abbotsford Police say they tried to pull over the car the woman was driving.

But the car didn’t stop and seconds later, it collided into a cement barrier on the highway. The woman, who was the only person in the car, was taken to the hospital, where she’s currently in critical condition.

The Independent Investigations Office is looking into what happened and trying to determine if the actions of police led to the woman’s injuries, as they usually do in incidents of death or serious harm during a police interaction.

Anyone who may have dashcam video or information about the collision is asked to contact the Abbotsford Police Department at 604-859-5225.
