West Vancouver PD arrest man after boat theft in Horseshoe Bay

WEST VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A 36-year-old man is facing a number of charges after he allegedly stole a boat in Horseshoe Bay last week.

Around 3:40 p.m. Friday, staff at the Sewell’s Marina contacted West Vancouver police after they saw a man climb into an empty boat and launch the 17ft powerboat towards the ocean.

According to the WVPD, a resident in the area later said the man parked the boat in Larson Bay and fled to a nearby home.

With the help of the VPD Canine Unit, a dog eventually picked up the suspect’s scent and the man was found.

WVPD say Andrew Jason Knowland was hiding in a private pool utility room and was taken into custody.

Police also suspect Knowland may have stolen a number of items when he briefly entered another home in the area.

Knowland — who has no fixed address — faces one count of possession of stolen property, two counts of break and enter with intent to commit offence and two counts of break and enter and commit indictable offence.

He was released from custody Saturday and is waiting for his next court date.
