Arrest made after Vancouver woman awakens to stranger in apartment

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — After a young woman woke up to find a strange man in her Downtown Vancouver apartment Sunday, police say an arrest has been made.
Around 1 a.m. the 19-year-old woke up after being grabbed by the wrist by someone who had entered her suite, which is near Howe and Drake Streets.
“She screamed and ran out of her bedroom, and her roommate called police,” says a statement from the Vancouver Police Department.
“When officers arrived, the man was lying in the young woman’s bed. He resisted arrest and a taser was used to take him into custody.”
Woman, 19, is OK after finding a stranger in her room at about 1 a.m. on Sunday at Howe/Drake in #Vancouver. The man grabbed her wrist and it woke her up. Unclear how he got in the building. Suspect is 20, arrested and has history w/police. Mental health may have been a factor.

According to police, the unit was not on the ground floor and it’s still not clear how the man got access. The suspect is 20-years-old and has history with police.
“Drugs and alcohol are not suspected, but mental health may have been a factor.”
