VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — It was a beary long journey for a bear that made its way onto train tracks in Vancouver.

Twitter user and local photographer Craig Minielly says he says he heard some yelling from outside his guest house studio just east of the Main Street loop Wednesday. And when he went out to check out the commotion, he found Vancouver Police working to corral a misplaced animal.

“I just happened to look down and directly below me was a bear on the train tracks. So obviously, that’s what the officers were trying to do was move it along away from downtown. They seemed to know what they were doing and they handled it very nicely,” Minielly explains. “The bear wasn’t panicked. It was just kind of having a good time, wandering around, going from one side to the other, a little bit confused but nothing too agitated.”

The bear was also spotted near the PNE before making its way closer to Heatley and Powell streets.

Greg says it appears train services were halted during the rescue.

The bear was successfully tranquilized by conservation officers and will likely be relocated.
