Homicide team called in after man shot, killed in Coquitlam

COQUITLAM (NEWS 1130) – The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team is on scene in Coquitlam, after a deadly targeted shooting.

IHIT confirmed reports of a shooting in the area of Henderson Avenue and Hart Street, just north of Highway 1 and Brunette Avenue before 6 p.m, in which a man was gunned down.

Neighbour Lennie Olafson says they heard three or four shots at around 5:27 p.m.

“I went to go out to the alley, to walk down and check it out, and there’s a body lying in the alley,” she says.

A yellow tarp can be seen laying next to a white SUV, with the front passenger side door open.

Olafsen says while from time-to-time there may be stolen cars that show up in the area, she has never seen anything like this.

“I know a few of the neighbours and it’s getting less and less. I’ve been here 20 years – I don’t know any of them anymore. I know a handful and that’s about it. But we usually take a walk down the alley to go walking, and thank God we didn’t go down here,” she says.

Other neighbours say they heard a few “pops”, and say it was just another quiet day in the area before this happened.

NEWS 1130 has reached out to Coquitlam RCMP for comment.
