Surrey family pleads for help in locating missing man

SURREY (NEWS 1130) – Friends and family of a man missing from Surrey since last week, are putting out an emotional plea for help to find him.

Bernard “Bernie” Grempel was last seen on May 14 near 152 St and 100 Ave in Surrey’s Guildford neighbourhood, around 8:45 p.m.

Friend Rene Regepli says it’s been a rollercoaster since Grempel disappeared.

“There were a whole series of sightings in Vancouver. We were very hopeful and then it turned out that there was another person who just has a really uncanny resemblance,” Regepli says.

Usually Grempel speaks with his mother at least every other day.

“Bernard is is very, very close with his family. His sister describes him as a ‘mama’s boy’, and I think that’s a fair description,” Grempel says.

Described as very softly spoken, Regepli and Grempel’s family are concerned for the 28-year-old as he struggles with mental health issues and hasn’t taken his medication.

Grempel is described as 6 ft, 160 lbs with brown eyes and “a lot of brown curly hair.” He was last seen wearing red sweatpants, Nike shoes, and a black jacket with a hood.

Grempel’s family are asking if anyone knows his whereabouts, to call Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502.
