Diamonds busy again as baseball players flood back under new COVID-19 restrictions

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – After months of COVID-19 restrictions, diamonds are busy again as baseball games get the go ahead this weekend.

Having been unable to compete until the updated COVID-19 restrictions announced May 25, John Braaten with Cloverdale Baseball says it’s not just kids who are excited.

“A lot of parents are very anxious. I probably had over 300 emails in the last day and a half for people to understand what we’re able to do, and moving forward. So lots of excitement, not just with us but everywhere in the province,” Braaten says.

Starting on Saturday morning, Braaten says it’s the perfect restart day thanks to sunny skies.

“[The weather] plays a big part in baseball. We need sun to be able to play outdoors, to make it safe for everyone,” he says.

Braaten is especially excited for the kids to get back in the field.

“This goes back to 2020 when this all started. So to be able to get to gameplay, and hopefully keep everybody safe, we’re just excited for them,” he says.

Under current restrictions spectators are still unable to watch from the sidelines. Baseball fans should be able to watch games again in the next coming phase of updated restrictions.
