Andy Hobbs, retired VPD superintendent, elected to Richmond city council

RICHMOND (NEWS 1130) — Andy Hobbs won Richmond’s byelection in what turned out to be a tight, three-way race after the 21 polls closed.

Hobbs got 3,095 and Jonathan Ho was runner up with 2,785 votes.

However, in third place, just 18 votes behind Ho was Karina Reid with 2,767 votes.

With 13,002 total votes in the byelection represents ten per cent of voter turnout

Hobbs will now sit on the city council until the next general election which will be October 2022.

The byelection was triggered by former councillor Kelly Greene’s election to the B.C. Legislature.

His endorsement came from Richmond Mayor Malcolm Brodie and councillors Linda McPhail, Bill McNulty, and Alexa Loo.

Hobbs laid out some key points on Facebook over the weekend.

His priorities will focus on tackling the ongoing Lower Mainland gang conflict, keeping taxes low and supporting farmers of Richmond.
