VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The return of our summer-like temperatures this week is coinciding with the Vancouver loosening outdoor drinking rules in some locations.

Starting Monday, three public plazas in Vancouver are now open for public drinking. The city’s pilot program, renewed for a second year allows alcohol consumption at 800 Robson Square downtown, as well as at plaza spaces on at Fraser Street and East 27th Avenue, as well as on Cambie Street and West 17th Avenue.

Launched last year during the height of the pandemic to allow people some additional outdoor gathering options, the city is keeping the program going through October 2021.

Vancouver joined a number of municipalities in Metro Vancouver last year which decided to loosen outdoor drinking rules in public spaces, however, a proposed pilot project to allow drinking in parks was not approved by the park board.
