Burnaby school bus struck by alleged impaired driver while kids on board: RCMP

BURNABY (NEWS 1130) — A man who police say was impaired when he crashed his car into a school bus with children on board has been arrested in Burnaby.
Mounties say they were called to the area near Montecito Elementary around 3:40 p.m. Thursday. Officers were told someone driving a silver-coloured sedan had run into the bus which was taking kids home from a nearby Catholic school before driving away.
“Fortunately, none of the children or the driver were injured,” says a statement from Burnaby RCMP.
A suspected impaired driver is in custody after crashing into a school bus.
Students from a Catholic school were on board, but there were no injuries.
The suspect took off but was arrested by Burnaby RCMP’s Youth Section.

A car matching the description was spotted near Burnaby Mountain Golf Course.
“The suspect driver is believed to have been impaired by drugs,” the statement continues. “A large quantity of cash, illicit drugs and several weapons have since been seized as a result of the investigation.”

Police say they are troubled that someone with weapons and drugs was in the area of a school, and are trying to figure out what the man was doing there.
