Vancouver Police say a 44-year-old man died after shots were fired near a scenic and usually busy park in the River District Friday night.

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Vancouver Police say a 44-year-old man died after shots were fired near a scenic and usually busy park in the River District Friday night.

Police responded to calls of shots fired around 10:00 p.m. near Kent Avenue and Kerr Street.

Alvis Anjesh Singh was found dead in his vehicle.

A silver SUV with a sunroof was seen driving away east on Kent Avenue shortly after shots were heard.

Police confirm a burnt-out SUV was found by J W Sexsmith Elementary School near West 59th Avenue and Ontario Street a few minutes later.

“The investigation is still in the preliminary stages, but investigators believe the burnt out vehicle is connected to the homicide,” a release reads.

Police are now looking for three people believed to be inside the silver SUV.

The area is quiet and residential in most cases, but police had East Kent Avenue and Jellicoe Street taped off for several hours as police continued to investigate.

Police also briefly shut down southbound traffic on the Knight Street and Oak Street Bridges following reports of a possible shooting, but traffic along these major routes has since resumed.

No arrests have been made, and it is unclear if this is linked to the Lower Mainland gang conflict.

Anyone with information or anyone who has dashcam footage in the area of Langara Golf Course and Sexsmith Elementary School June 4 between 9 and 11 p.m. is asked to call VPD’s Homicide Unit at 604-717-2500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

This is Vancouver’s eighth homicide of the year.
