Two people stabbed in Chilliwack, attacks ‘unprovoked’: RCMP

CHILLIWACK (NEWS 1130) – Two people have been stabbed in what appear to be separate unprovoked attacks in Chilliwack Sunday.

Chilliwack RCMP say a 58-year-old man was approached by someone he didn’t know, around Mary Street and Spadina Avenue at 9:15 p.m.

The victim managed to walk himself to Chilliwack General Hospital, where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries. The victim has since been released.

The suspect in this particular stabbing is described as a white man, approximately 6 feet tall with a slim to medium build, wearing jeans and a blue top. The suspect was also described as having frizzy dark brown hair.

Approximately 45 minutes later, Chilliwack RCMP received reports of a second stabbing a few blocks south at Mary Street and Alexander Avenue.

The 80-year-old victim is in an area intensive care unit, being treated for stab wounds.

Although police say the investigation is in preliminary stages, Chilliwack RCMP believe due to the timing of the separate attacks, they may be linked.

“Given the fact that that these incidents appear to be unprovoked, this is extremely concerning. Chilliwack RCMP will step up presence in the area but we are asking the community to remain vigilant,” says Sergeant Krista Vrolyk.

“It is advised for the public to walk in well lit areas and if possible with a friend and to be aware of your surroundings. Please report any suspicious activity to police.”

Investigators are asking anyone with any information regarding these stabbings to call the Chilliwack RCMP at 604-792-4611.
