Vancouver police looking for man who exposed himself to child at downtown school

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A child was the target of an indecent act at a Downtown Vancouver school this week.

Police say an eight-year-old girl was on the playground at Lord Roberts Elementary School near Bidwell and Pendrell streets Monday afternoon when a stranger exposed his genitals to her. The girl told an adult right away, but by the time officers arrived, the man was gone.

“A child should never have to be exposed to such a disturbing act,” Const. Tania Visintin said. “There’s no doubt this would have frightened the young student. She did the right thing by telling a trusted adult immediately.”

The suspect is described as being between 55 and 65 years old and between 5’9″ and 6’2″ tall. He is believed to be white with short, light brown/grey hair, and grey stubble. He was wearing a tan or olive-coloured baseball hat and a burgundy bomber jacket, and was carrying a messenger bag.

Police say they are still in the early stages of the investigation, and are asking the public to be vigilant.

“Our goal right now is to bring awareness to the public and for parents and guardians to have a talk with their children,” Visintin said.

If you saw anything suspicious in the area between 2 and 2:30 p.m., you’re asked to call the police.
