More than 75% of B.C. adults have first dose of COVID vaccine

VICTORIA (NEWS 1130) — A little more than three quarters of adults in B.C. have received their first dose of a vaccine against COVID-19, as of Friday.

The province reports 75.1 per cent of all adults and 73.1 per cent of all people eligible aged 12 and older have at least one dose.

“What we have seen is that getting fully immunized with your first and second doses of COVID-19 vaccine is making the difference, helping to dramatically slow the spread in our communities,” Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix said in a joint release.

In B.C., 3,893,581 Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines have been administered so far — 497,932 of which are second doses.

In total, 146,176 COVID-19 cases have been recorded throughout the pandemic, 1,730 people have died and 142,526 people who tested positive have recovered.

“As long as we increase our contacts in a slow and measured way, register and get fully vaccinated, and continue to use our layers of protection, we can confidently move forward with BC’s Restart plan,” Dix and Henry added.
